The extraordinary healing effects of the Karlovy Vary mineral springs, that have made the town popular all over the world, have been well known for centuries already. For more than 200 hundred years have local physicians been trying to find out how to make the Karlovy Vary drinking cure accessible not only to the spa guest, but also to those who cannot afford to visit the town.
Nowadays this problem has been solved thanks to up-to-date technologies. The Karlovy Vary mineral salt is produced by evaporation of the well-known Vřídlo (Hot Geyser) mineral water. This salt contains the same amount of minerals that are found in the healing mineral springs of Karlovy Vary. Karlovy Vary mineral salt is produced with state-of-the-art equipment, while observing strict hygienic standards. Consumers thus obtain a product, similar in composition to that of the renown Karlovy Vary spring and may thus undergo a drinking cure at home, without the need to travel to Karlovy Vary.
The following concentrations are used for home drinking cure: 0.5%, 1.0%, up to 5% (5, 10, up to 50 grams of salt diluted in 1 litre of water). Salt is diluted in lukewarm or hot water. In order to improve its taste and reduce the high alkali content, thus preventing clouding due to sodium carbonate precipitate, it is recommended to use warm aerated water (water containing carbon dioxide). It is recommended that original cups with a mouth-piece or glasses with slip on glass tube with 200 – 250 ml content be used for drinking. The cup should be slowly drunk in 3 to 5 minutes, with 6 –10 minutes break between individual cups. Each dosage should contain 200 – 400 ml, unless the physician recommends otherwise. The dosage may be increased in the 2nd and 3rd week and reduced in the 4th and 5th week. In the event of diarrhoea individual doses must be reduced by 100 –150 ml and the water temperature increased.
