What is red fermented rice?
RYR - Red Fermented Rice (in English referred to as red yeast rice), is rice fermented with red yeast (Monascus purpureus) that grows on it. It has been shown that this microorganism produces a substance called lovastatin – Monacolin K. This is the first substance from the group of statins introduced into clinical use. Consumption of fermented red rice leads to a decrease in blood cholesterol levels, and reduces the risk of heart and vascular diseases.
