Iceland lichen (Cetraria islandica) grows mainly in alpine and arctic regions.
The substances contained in Icelandic lichen create a protective layer on the mucous membrane of the oral cavity and throat. The irritated mucous membrane is thus protected from external irritation, which prevents the further development of a cough. Alleviation of irritation is achieved thanks to the high content of mucilaginous substances in the Icelandic lichen extract. These substances prevent the mucous membranes from drying out by binding water on the surface of the mucous membrane.
