The amino acid L-lysine contained in the HerpeNorm™ dietary supplement inhibits the amino acid arginine. If you experience discomfort more frequently, you should avoid foods rich in arginine (e.g. nuts) and limit your intake of foods containing white flour, rice, as well as convenience foods and foods high in sugar.
L-lysine is an essential amino acid and the human body cannot synthesize it on its own. Therefore, we must supply lysine through diet or supplements. Our diet should therefore be varied with a balance of sugars, fats and proteins. Lower levels of lysine have been found in vegetarians (especially vegans), athletes, children, the elderly and those with an unbalanced lysine-poor diet.
