The peony is a perennial plant about ¾ m tall. It occurs in deciduous and mixed forests in southern Europe up to the southern part of the Alps, its full-flowered forms are grown in gardens and parks. It is a traditional plant used for supportive purposes, which is served by the developed flower and root. The flower contains anthocyanin pigments (paeonidin), flavonoids and tannins, the root alkaloid peregrinin, essential oils, tannins, glutamine, organic acids and minerals.
The tincture prepared from the flowers and root has a beneficial effect on the nervous system. It supports the mental and physical state of the female organism, facilitates the course of menopause.
