Description
Vitamin D is formed in the skin by exposure to sunlight. The UVB radiation that creates vitamin D in the skin does not pass through clouds and is sometimes reflected by the ozone layer, so it does not reach us. If we expose our entire body to the sun and get a tan (UVA radiation), we will not get vitamin D. The most UVB radiation for getting this vitamin is in the summer between 10 am and 4 pm. The amount of vitamin D produced is reduced by protective creams, frequent baths in hot water, covering the body, dry skin in older people and polluted air.
Dietary supplement.
In foods, vitamin D can be found in fish oil, liver, egg yolk and milk.
