Selenium is a micronutrient vital for many processes in the body. This includes maintaining a healthy immune system and plays an important role in normal thyroid hormone metabolism. Selenium supplements also help maintain male fertility, by promoting sperm motility. Selenium is an essential component of the key antioxidant enzyme glutathione peroxidase which works with other antioxidants (see below) to protect the cells of the body.
Bio-Selenium + Zinc also contain vitamins C and E. These are important, synergystic micronutrients that contribute to the protection of cells from oxidative stress. This 'antioxidant' property results in increased protection of cell damage from free radicals, which are particles generated by smoking and pollution. Furthermore, zinc and selenium contain vitamin B6 which contributes to normal homocysteine metabolism. Homocysteine is a naturally occurring amino acid in the body that has associations with cell injury if it's metabolism is insufficient.
