Description
BIO-ZINC from Pharma Nord consists of round white tablets containing pure, organically bound zinc in the form of zinc gluconate, which is better absorbed in the body. Zinc is an essential mineral primarily found in cells and, in cellular fluid throughout the body. Our white and red blood cells contain a substantial amount of zinc. Together with copper, zinc is an important constituent of the antioxidant enzyme superoxide dismutase (SOD).
Zinc has many different functions in the human body and supports about 200 different enzymes, including those enzymes that are essential for nutrient metabolism and enzymes that are important for gene translation and expression. The more zinc needed is during puberty, in pregnant and lactating women, vegetarians, the elderly, in people with excessive alcohol consumption, under stress, during the use of diuretics and in people who sweat excessively.
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has evaluated the documented properties of zinc preparations and made the following statements that zinc contributes to:
- normal cognitive functions
- normal exchange of macronutrients, fatty acids, vitamin A
- maintenance of hair, nails, skin, vision, bone tissue
- normal fertility and reproduction, DNA synthesis
- maintaining normal testosterone levels in the blood
